Florence Nightingale

As I am nearing the end of Nursing School, we begin to learn all the nursing theories and ethics involved with nursing. One cannot get through nursing school without learning about Florence Nightingale (12 May 1820-13 August 1910)
Don't know who she is? Well, she is known as the "Mother of Nursing". She is truly someone who made Nursing what it is today. To clarify, Nursing is said to have been around since the beginning of time. (Someone had to help the caveman after he almost got killed dinosaur right?!?!) Early on, people who did the job of the "nurse" were usually nuns, or widows. Then, during the time of the Holy Wars (Crusades), most nurses were men, who cared for the wounded during war. In 1854, during the Crimean war, Nightingale was appointed as head of a group of nurses that worked in Crimea during the war. It is important to note that during this time, nurses were usually prostitutes whose punishment was working as a nurse at hospitals. So for Nightingale to CHOOSE nursing as her "calling" was an outrage in the eyes of her family, who were very wealthy and socially successful and educated.
Her success during the during the Crimean War was due to her methods of improving sanitation and hygiene at the camps where she cared for injured soldiers. This success led her to begin developing schools of nursing.
Her theories of nursing care are believed to be the first nursing theories available to improve the care that nurses give their patients. Her theories in nursing include: how a person is influenced by the environment, how nursing is a "calling", and how we as nurses can affect the environment to facilitate health and recovery from illness.
PHEW!! That was alot of information! And it wasn't even the tip of the iceberg in all there is to say about Florence Nightingale! Just thought I'd keep it short and sweet.

UNTIL NEXT TIME! Adios!

Adding Friends

Hello everyone.
I have recently added A TON of new blogs that I will be following. I ask that in return, I get a few followers back! I'm not sure if it tells the Blogger that I have added them, but I hope that if the people that I added, SEE that i added them, that I get a few new followers! :)
You may be asking, "Why do I want new followers?". Well the simple answer is: MONEY! In order to bring in a little bit of extra income, I have chosen to Monetize my blogs, as I'm sure many fellow bloggers have chosen to do as well. Monetezation of my blogs means that each time someone visits my blog, and clicks on an ad, I will get a portion of the money that that company makes for each click. So please, if you want to help a fellow blogger, PLEASE follow me, as I have followed you! And tell your friends to follow me too!!
Right now, my blog is pretty... umm... boring! (LOL). But the reason for that is, I have been in Nursing School for the past few years and if anyone has been through nursing school, it is like boot camp.. I really have not had time to do ANYTHING, especially blogging. So now that I am nearing the end of my Nursing School journey, I hope that I will have a little bit more time to write, and take pictures! Which I hope will make my blog a lot better, and bearable, to visit more often!
Well if you are reading this, I will only have to assume that you have visited my page, so I sincerely thank you for doing so! But don't just leave! Add me! Follow my blog! The more the merrier!!

Starting Trends

So, i have started MY FINAL CLASS IN NURSING!! I'm so happy! I can't believe that I have made it this far! But at the same time, I wonder why the heck it took me so long! This class will be all about the laws and ethics in Nursing, and basically "tying it all together". My first hospital day is tomorrow, and... I cant believe I'm saying this... I'M EXCITED FOR IT!! I used to always have so much anxiety for clinicals, but luckily, I have an AMAZING instructor for my clinicals and I feel so much more confident now than I ever have before.
Some dates you might want to know:
Thursday, November 17, 2011- MY LAST DAY OF CLINICALS!
Tuesday, December 13, 2011- CANDLIGHTING CEREMONY (For non-nursing students, this is basically graduation from nursing school. It is a very wonderful ceremony!)
Wednesday, December 14, 2011 COLLEGE GRADUATION (I'm not sure if I will be attending this one, the Candlelighting is the important one for me.)

I may or may not be having a Graduation party, it depends on how many RSVP's I get. Hey, I am fine with a nice dinner or something, but I figured it would be nice to have some old friends get back together.

That's pretty much it for now! Hopefully, I will have time to continue these blogs!!
-Jennifer!
